Sustainable Nine Design + Build Dream Home

Rubble is thrilled to have worked with award-winning builder Sustainable Nine to select the tile for this incredible, modern home. Their stunning Energy Star certified smart home has been awarded the title of Dream Home in this year’s Parade of Homes.

The home, located on Shadywood Road in Orono, overlooks the gorgeous Crystal Bay on Lake Minnetonka. It makes excellent use of so many of our tile designs that we will spend a couple of blog posts taking you on a tour to spotlight each one!

Kitchen featuring ADEX Studio Tear Drop tile from Rubble

Rubble’s ADEX USA Tear Drop Tile

A look around the kitchen of this dream home will reveal the elegantly detailed backsplash, featuring the Tear Drop shaped tile in Snow Cap White from the Studio collection by ADEX USA. The ceramic tiles of the Studio collection come in several shapes, including more traditional styles and unique shapes like the arabesque or the tear drop.

The tear drop field tiles come in a range of elegant, neutral, nature-inspired tones such as Bamboo, Eucalyptus, and Volcanico, to name just a few. The Studio collection also uses a special glaze to add depth and motion.

The contemporary tear drop shape can be arranged in different patterns to create a layered sense of dimension in backsplashes, like the one in this Dream Home kitchen. It also adds sophisticated flair to bathrooms, accent walls and more. You can even mix colors within a pattern to add another layer of visual interest.

Solistone Commercial

We also provided Sustainable Nine’s dream home with tiles by Solistone Commercial in three separate areas of the home. The wet bar, fireplace, and Jack & Jill bathroom all utilize different tiles expertly crafted by Solistone Commercial.

Head over to the wet bar to admire the backsplash, SC’s Tessen tile in Brine, a shade reminiscent of the sea or even Lake Minnetonka right outside. Tessen, an arabesque tile that comes in ceramic & porcelain, is perfect for backsplashes and accents. It comes in nearly every color of the rainbow, and can brightly pop or serve in a more subdued style.

Tessen can be installed in one of SC’s in-stock patterns, or can be made into a custom pattern for the adventurous and imaginative designer.

Bring your beverage from the wet bar over to the fireplace, which is framed with natural stone Templar in Dark Mosaic by Solistone Commercial. This look harnesses and hones the natural beauty you can find all around this dream home. The neutrality and depth of the stone perfectly capture the warmth and light of a cozy, crackling fire.

Finally, take a trip to the Jack and Jill bathroom. This gorgeous, airy space incorporates the Hoshi field tile in White Star mosaic in both the shower floor and niche.

The porcelain Hoshi tile comes in a spectrum of colors, from the clean shades of white and chalk to the elegant quirk of teal, pink, or metallic gold. Its delicate and intricate pattern is incredibly versatile and can be set in one color or many, creating endless artistic possibilities.

Tile is always a smart choice when considering eco-friendly, sustainable design. Tile is incredibly durable and low maintenance. When properly installed, ceramic and porcelain tiles can last a lifetime. They are among the longest lasting flooring tile products available. A flood or other unforeseen event, will ruin wood, concrete, carpet, etc., but properly sealed tile would be completely undamaged.

Plus, ceramic and porcelain tile can typically be cleaned with nothing more than warm water. This keeps cleanup simple, and eliminates the need for harsh chemical cleaners. Also, because tiles are kiln fired at very high temperatures they don’t emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the indoor air of a building.

Rubble Tile and Sustainable Nine have created a dream home that is not only modern, comfortable, and visually stunning, but also clean and sustainable. Don’t miss your chance to visit this dream home and check out the incredible designs and beautiful tiles during this year’s Parade of Homes!
